About
Backing small and BIPOC-owned businesses in your daily life is often easier said than done when your typical large corporation is right around every corner.
That’s why I wanted to create a growing directory of BIPOC-owned businesses you can keep in your back pocket.
The origins of backBIPOC
Upon trying to search for businesses like these to follow and support, I was surprised at how much trouble I had finding shops that were, in fact, minority-owned. But truthfully, this directory wasn't conceived until I had the task of creating a website from scratch for the ilovecreatives Squarespace Design course in mid-2020. I searched for inspiration and found it in brands like Brother Veilles, Girlfriend Collective, and Salamat Ceramics, and thus backBIPOC directory was born.
As I was looking for more businesses to feature, I realized that what these businesses offer are items I already gift, use, and purchase on a regular basis, but from larger companies and corporations. This realization motivated me to publish the site, hoping to help others integrate businesses like these into their routine. I'll be referring back to this directory myself as time goes on, and hope you will too ♥️
